Cork University Hospital
The successful operation of the hospital relies on the relationship between the new and existing building, the relationship between different departments and the internal arrangement of each department. The building comprises three distinct layers; the ward blocks over the top three floors: the clinical block over the next two floors and the basement car parks. These layers are given expression in the form of the building.
The construction of the Hospital building will deliver 175 in-patient beds, clinical, surgical, diagnostics, teaching, administration and catering facilities all over two floors of basement car parking providing 511 spaces. A considered circulation strategy provides integrated and improved routes between the new and existing facility for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular movement including the emergency services.
