Highfield Hospital
The 264 bedroom facility comprises a 200 bed extension providing a range of accommodation choices tailored to meet the needs of residents with dementia and other mental health impairments, and an upgrade of 64 high dependency beds and Alzheimer’s care beds, all in accordance with current HIQA standards. The ‘household model’ is used with bedroom clusters supported by individual communal dining / living spaces.
Normalisation of the resident’s environment underpins the design approach. We believe that architecture should create a supportive, therapeutic environment which reassures residents and assists staff and family in the act of caring. Careful consideration is given to building orientation, views, aspect, controlled use of natural light, sound reduction / acoustics and the provision of outdoor space. A clear layout offers ease of orientation.
