Among six shortlisted proposals for the rejuvenation of Dominick Street, the successful submission provides 360 social / private housing units, a community centre, a new urban plaza and 120,000sqft of retail use. The design response delivers the following elements:

A) a strong public realm - a new Civic Square and realignment/upgrade of Dominick St.; B) a sustainable urban housing model - a variety of household types and sizes for lifetime living, with a strong emphasis on mixed tenure and families with children; C) quality residential amenity areas - semi-private pocket parks and play grounds within residential courtyards for active/passive recreation, with a high degree of supervision; D) definition of public, semi- public and private realms - by avoidance of through routes within residential courtyards and clear threshold definition; E) complimentary uses to support and sustain development of community and public realm.
